Dutch town loses Twitter conspiracy case

Twitter does not have to remove all messages in which a Dutch village is linked to conspiracy theories about paedophiles and satanic cults, judges in The Hague have decided. The local council of Bodegraven-Reeuwijk had taken Twitter to court over the messages which centre on stories about satanic paedophile networks and ritual child murder in the town, and which have been circulated by conspiracy theorists since 2020. Cancer patient numbers set to rise sharply

The number of cancer patients living in the Netherlands is set to almost double in the next 10 years as the population ages and survival rates improve. Research and data agency Integraal Kankercentrum Nederland (IKNL) estimates that 1.4 million people will have had a cancer diagnosis in 2032, accounting for 7.5% of the projected population of 18.5 million. Nine on trial for deadly Majorca brawl

The trial of nine men accused of participating in a deadly brawl while on the Spanish holiday island of Majorca last year started on Tuesday in Lelystad. A fight that started over a barstool and spread onto the streets of Playa de Palma in 2021 left one 27-year-old Dutchman dead and several others seriously injured. Inspectors again slam Ter Apel conditions

Government inspectors have again slammed conditions at the Ter Apel refugee reception in Groningen, and warned that babies and the elderly risk developing health problems. Inspectors visited the centre last week and found people sitting too close to each other in ‘a cold, draughty and dirty sports hall’. 100,000 chickens culled due to bird flu

Bird flu has been found on a farm in Groningen and over 100,000 broiler chickens – which were being raised to eat rather than lay eggs – have been destroyed as a precaution. One other farm which is three kilometres from the affected business in Kiel-Windeweer is now being monitored for signs of the disease, which has led to over 4.5 million bird being culled so far. Stowaway arrested after flying to Spain

A woman has been arrested after she bypassed airport security at Rotterdam The Hague airport and boarded a flight to Spain. AD.nl reported that the woman pressed the emergency button at the security gate, slipped through in the ensuing commotion and stowed away on a Transavia plane bound for Malaga.
